Federal Government Rebate

The Federal Government has announced it will pay a 30% rebate on all private health insurance premiums from 1 January 1999. This initiative recognizes the contribution that people with private health insurance are making to their own health care costs, rather than relying on the public system.

Changes made effective 1 April 2005 provide an increase in the rebate from 30% up to 35% for people aged between 65 and 69years, and 40% for people aged over 70years.

All Australians who are eligible for Medicare and who are members of a registered health fund are eligible for the Rebate - no matter what your level of cover, income or type of membership. The rebate is available on all ACA Health Benefits Fund private health insurance products.

Claiming the Rebate

As a member of ACA Health Benefits Fund, you will be able to choose the payment method that best suits you. It just depends if you want to keep the money in your pocket now, or receive a lump sum later - either way, you will receive the same amount. You can receive the 30% rebate as:

  • A premium reduction through ACA Health Benefits Fund; or
  • A refundable tax rebate in your annual tax return; or
  • A direct payment available from Medicare offices (once a periodical receipt has been issued by ACA Health).

If you choose to take the 30% rebate as a reduced premium, you will need to fill out the application to receive the Federal Government 30% Rebate and forward it to us at the ACA Health office. We will then proceed to have you registered to receive the 30% rebate as a reduced premium.
